Ojibwe Traditions
Bayfield, WI
Diane, a member of the Red Cliff band of Ojibwe,
is a skilled maker of birchbark baskets
of various types, including makuks and traditional fanning baskets for
winnowing wild rice. Diane can speak about contemporary and traditional Ojibwe art, history, myths, legends, language and culture. She enjoys leading hands-on projects with birchbark, dreamcatchers, and gathering plants. Diane’s sessions include storytelling to
accompany the participants’ work. Diane brings traditional items for display and touch. Her preference is to work with special groups with specific interests, rather than large diffuse audiences.
