Commissions
Projects with
Percent for Art allocations of $25,000 or more commission an artist to create a
site-specific work of art for the new or renovated facility. Competitions for
commissions are accessible to state, regional and national artists. For
each commission project, the selection committee determines the project
parameters, including
potential sites, media, and conceptual considerations. Commission opportunities are posted on the Arts Board’s website. Interested artists
submit slides of past work and other support materials prior to the specified
deadline. The selection committee reviews these materials to select one or
more semi-finalists, who may be invited to visit the site and propose a
site-specific design. Artists submitting design proposals are paid a nominal
design fee and reimbursed for travel expenses. After reviewing the design
proposals, the committee recommends an artist for the commission. Once the
Wisconsin Arts Board approves the committee’s recommendation, a contract is
created between the artist, the agency and the Wisconsin Arts Board, and the
artist produces and installs the work.
