Press Release

Call for Wisconsin Visual Artists and Craftspeople

Since August 1992, the WI Department of Administration (DOA), in cooperation with the Wisconsin Arts Board, has been providing an opportunity for Wisconsin artists to showcase their work in the DOA/WI Arts Board Lobby Exhibit Space, located at 101 E. Wilson Street in Madison, WI.

The lobby space was specifically designed to showcase the work of Wisconsin artists. Individuals doing business with the State, from Wisconsin, the region, the nation, as well as from overseas, constitute a substantial amount of traffic through this space.

Ample wall space has accommodated group shows from throughout the state. Spacious display cases have allowed the exhibition of pottery, jewelry, hats and books, as well as “outsider art.” Respondents to this call for artists may also be referred to the Lieutenant Governor’s staff for display in that office.

The Wisconsin Arts Board is looking for individuals or groups of artists who would like the opportunity to display their work at the DOA/WI Arts Board Lobby Exhibit Space. Applicants must be residents of Wisconsin and not currently pursuing a degree in the fine arts.

To apply, artists should include ten images (see specifications below), a resume and a short exhibition proposal. Please email all materials to: artsboard@wisconsin.gov

Application materials must be received by Friday, July 30, 2004.

Work Sample Specifications

Each digital work sample will be submitted in the following format:

  • High quality JPEG saved in PC file format (use quality setting of 90% or better).
  • Images must be in proper orientation for viewing (upright on monitor).
  • Image size should be no larger than 768 pixels along the longest dimension.

Although images smaller than 768 can be submitted, going much smaller than 600 pixels will reduce the impact of your images.

  • File name should be in the following format:

number_artist name_title.jpg

Numbers should be two digits with a leading zero if under 10. This will allow for easy ordering of the images. Here is an example:

02_sally smith_self portrait.jpg

  • At this resolution, JPEG image file sizes should be in the 200-450 KB range, depending on tonal complexity.

To maintain the highest quality, all editing should be done in full resolution and files should be saved using a loss-less format like TIFF or PSD. Only after editing is completed should you resize and save a copy to the JPEG format.
